Springdale, AR Springdale, AR Full-time Full-time $60,000 - $70,000 a year $60,000 - $70,000 a year Job Summary This role will oversee all sports, fitness, and recreation programs and staff for the Jones Center (the Center).
The Recreation Director will plan, develop, direct, and evaluate comprehensive recreation programs and services for the Center by assessing and monitoring community needs; identifying opportunities for new programs and program partners; improving the efficiency of work and guest experience; and staying abreast of trends regionally and globally to implement fun and relevant new recreation, fitness, and sports programs, continuing to build attendance and revenue.
Reporting to the Director of Programming, the position plays a crucial role in revenue generation, maximizing use of Center facilities, and ensuring our mission of fueling community connections is met.
The Director is also responsible for the continuous evaluation of programs to ensure that community needs are being served, that programs are fun and relevant, and that the Center is able to maximize revenue and participation.
The position oversees and maintains relationships with the Center's important sports and recreation partners and manages other areas like contracts, budget, communication, meetings, and partners relationships.
Main Responsibilities Plans, coordinates, and directs a diversified year-round sports and recreation program, including managing swimming pools, gymnasiums, ice rink, fields, and open spaces.
Oversees the Center's fitness center programs and facilities to ensure we are continually meeting the needs of our broad communities and that we provide top-quality fitness programs.
Manages, plans and organizes workloads and staff assignments; trains, motivates, and evaluates assigned staff; reviews progress and directs changes as needed.
Works in close collaboration with other program colleagues and marketing staff to design programs that appeal to targeted audiences and increase public awareness of Jones Center's recreation resources.
Promotes interest in Jones Center recreation programs through engagement in the community, positive partner relationships, and helping to build audiences and understanding for the opportunities available.
Reviews program areas and designs and implements changes or new programs to meet the community's recreational and sports needs.
Provides leadership and direction in developing short- and long-range plans; gathers, interprets, and prepares data for studies, reports, and recommendations; coordinates department activities with other departments.
Engages actively in the regional recreation and sports community understanding programs offered, coordinating schedules and finding ways to fill gaps, add new or upgrade programs, and/or build new mutually beneficial partnerships.
Ensures equipment, materials and supplies needed are available and well maintained.
Guest and Employee Safety Annually reviews and updates safety plans and procedures for acquatics, ice rink and gym.
Maintains CPR certification and others as needed Ensure that staff are trained in needed life-safety skills and all required certifications are up to date Stay up-to-date on latest safety trends in recreation facilities and ensure the Jones Center follows best practices Work closely and collaboratively with the Director of Safety and Security and security team on recreation events Management of staff Manages the fitness, sports and recreation staff members Ensures efficiency and effectiveness of staffing for full and part-time staff members to ensure that the programs are fun, safe and well implemented.
Trains staff and ensures that all required licensces or skills (CPR, Lifeguard Certification, etc.
) are up to date Communicates and motivates the recreation team Sets goals and metrics and holds staff - and self - accountable for these goals.
Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and expedites workflow; studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of operations.
Works in the trenches with staff when needed Additional Responsibilities Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Required Skills and Abilities A self-motivated, collaborative style with a desire continually learn and implement new programs to serve the community.
Excellent management skills Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate them when appropriate.
Effective decision-making and negotiation skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient with Microsoft Office or related software Spanish, Marshallese or another language proficiency a plus Education, Training, and Experience Associate or bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Recreation, Hospitality Management, or related area preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
At least 5 years of supervisory experience.
Experience in a YMCA or recreation facility is strongly preferred, and understanding of and love of public sports programs required.
Analytical thinking and the ability to analyze data are needed.
Knowledge of emergency procedures, First Aid and CPR.
Knowledge of the management and operation of recreation facilities and equipment.
Understanding of coaching theory and practice.
Arkansas driver's license and good driving record.
Physical Requirements Ability to remain stationary, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
Ability to lift 25 pounds regularly.
Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
Position requires a flexible schedule, working during programs and as needed for staff support, including some evenings and weekends.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
